So for those of you that dont know, the Silver Eagle game is actually based on an upcoming space sim called Star Citizen. The games currently in deveolpoment and is being publically funded to the tune of like 45 million. I backed the project because, well, it looked cool as hell. So as a backer I get to be part of the deveolpment process, getting game features to test out with the other backers, and the first instance of actual game play came out in the form of Arena Commander. AC is at first just a single player free flight mode with an addition of a wave mode (Where lots of enemies try to murder you), with a planned multiyplayer mode to be slowly rolled out across the month.
It's really good.
It's been an awful long time since I played a space sim so my skills are rusty as all hell, but the game even in it's early state looks amazing and plays great (To my credit I was not shot down, no, I just crashed a bunch of times instead).
Star Citizen has been a big investment for alot of people, even emotionally, and I myself am so confident on the eventual release of the game I setup House Khagarn to give players interested in rp a place to create stories. The Silver Eagle is just a precursor for what I eventually want to do within the game itself, and more and more I'm super stoked about where everything is headed.
On the AC itself, and how it plays. I'm quite impressed with how it runs on my pc, while it's not outdated it usually pulls through playing most graphically intense games. The only times there's trouble is the load, takes my system a bit to start everything up, and when a ship explodes into bits (Might jutter a bit as it works out where all the ship pieces should fly- usually into my face, haha). But overall the game runs very smoothly which is impressive for something still in development. Where AC does show it's pre-alpha form is the crashes, which happen not frequently but can whenever it's doing lots of things at once (In my case it was a combo of me flying side ways into a rock, exploding everywhere and the game trying to send me back to the menu all at the same time).
The ships have a real weight to them, which you can feel when you turn or try to burst forward. In alot of cases you can be traveling alot faster then it really looks like you are, and when you turn your still going a little in your original direction which until you get used to can throw you off a bit. The A.I is a nasty little bugger that likes to get right up into our face, if your chasing one he's pretty likely to try and 360 and fly right at you- so learning how to take down ships quickly before they have time to break out of your tailing will be important.
So pretty great, right up until you get that flashing image "Missle locked" in red and you kind of panic and try to fly away very very fast.
